At the end of the Pacific War, former Japanese military officer Okada is charged with the murder/execution of an American military officer who mercilessly bombed innocent citizens in Nagoya.
His trial takes place in Tokyo in front of an all-American judge, defense, and prosecution team. Throughout the trial Okada insists that all liability lies with him as he dutifully fulfilled his orders.
It's a very reflective tale in which there are no heroics or melodrama. The story cuts between scenes from within the courtroom and scenes of Mr.Okada in prison, rallying around the morale of his subordinates. The acting was first rate.
