Osai, the wife of a shogun, offers her daughter's hand in marriage to Gonza, her husband's favorite retainer. Even though he is already engaged to another, Gonza readily accepts, seeing an opportunity to enhance his position.
Infuriated by this betrayal, the brother of Gonza's ex-fiancee takes his revenge by framing Gonza and Osai for adultery. The innocent pair are chased through the countryside by Osai's husband, who is intent on restoring his lost honor.
