Zero
Zerosen moyu

Director: Toshio Masuda
Starring: Daijiro Tsutsumi, Jun Hashizume, Yu Hayami, Tetsur Tanba

Based on a story by Kunio Yanagida, "Zero Fighter" is an unusual World War II film told through the eyes of the men who developed and built the devasting Zero fighter planes used to bomb Pearl Harbor and by the kamikaze pilots who fought and died in them.

Two young men are recruited into the Japanese air force just before outbreak of WW2 by the testpilot of Japans new super fighter - the Zero. The movie is told in reverse from the point of one of the young men who dossn't qualify for the pilot traning and instead joins the ground crew. It chronicles the entire history of the famous fighter from the first prototype test flights all through the war. Zero Fighter covers the history for the famed plane from its design and early dominance in the air until the end of the war when it is eventually outclassed by advanced enemy aircraft attacking in superior numbers.
If the special effects seem strangely reminiscent of Japans popular superhero and monster movies, Zero Fighter was produced by the same studio and special effects team responsible for several Godzilla films.
