|The Human Vapor|
Director: Ishiro Honda
Cast: Tatsuya Mihashi, Kaoru Yachigusa and Yoshio Tsuchiya
Gasu ningen dai ichigo - (known in Japan as Gas Person No. 1) The title may suggest a bad Sci-Fi movie, but this film is actually quite dramatic and well produced. Part mystery and part science fiction, it is well acted and the special effects of the man turning into the vapor is expertly done, a surprisingly adult Sci-Fi from Toho in its original form.
A librarian is subject to a scientific experiment which goes wrong and transforms him into 'The Human Vapor'. He uses his new ability to rob banks to fund the career of his girlfriend, a beautiful kabuki dancer. The Human Vapor is ruthless in his quest for money and kills anyone who stands in his way, especially police. He soon becomes Tokyo's most wanted criminal. Can he be stopped before he kills again?
The film was made by Toho's legendary Godzilla directing/special effects/producing team of Ishirō Honda, Eiji Tsuburaya, and Tomoyuki Tanaka. Along with Secret of the Telegian and The H-Man, it is often part of Toho's "mutant" trilogy.
