Toshiro Mifune stars in Samuari Rebellion, which takes a somewhat unorthodox approach to the samurai tradition. Set in 17th-century Japan, Mifune plays a loyal swordsman who is forced to rebel against his overlord when an injustice is done to his family.
His heroic stand for individual freedom is unthinkable in the warrior's code, and that's what made this film an instant sensation. Written by Shinobu Hashimoto (Rashomon), the movie combines great acting and thoughtful writing, with thrilling action and swordsplay.
