2006 NHK's taiga drama "Komyo Ga Tsuji" is based on a popular novel by Shiba Ryotaro which tells the true story of Yamauchi Kazutoyo and his wife Chiyo in the Warring Era of Japan. The story spans the closing years of the Sengoku period, the Azuchi-Momoyama period, and the beginning of the Edo period.
Yamauchi Kazutoyo, the military commander and daimyo who founded the Tosa han and built Kochi Castle. Who rises from the lowest status of an unemployed samurai soldier to the lofty position of provincial lord by his wise choices in rendering service to the key warlords of the time: Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa.
