The year 2004's Historical Drama from NHK is “Shinsengumi” a story of Isami Kondo who was the commander of Shinsengumi. "Shinsengumi" focuses on a group of young samurai who were hoping for bright future by working for the Tokugawa in the 1850s and 60s, the last days of the shogunate.
Shinsengumi's members who believed in their way to sustain order in Kyoto, was the most feared by radical samurai groups which were assassinating the shogunate supporters. Their strong will would often collide with one another which eventually caused the era to move from the feudal Edo period to the modern Meiji era.
The drama presented the glory and fall of the men of Shinsengumi that lived through the age of turmoil in Japanese history.
This special version is rearranged 49 episodes of the drama to trace the footsteps of Shinsengumi as seen by Mitsu, elder sister of Soji Okita who is one of important members of Shinsengumi. At the end of each part, Shingo Katori, who played the leading character Isami Kondo, and other members in the drama will have a casual talk to introduce memories and stories during the production.
